Responsible tourism: winning five operators
Reconcile tourism with respect for the environment and culture of the country has become a concern around the world. The Morocco is no exception. And it is even the Ministry of Tourism has taken the lead in creating the Moroccan Committee of responsible tourism (CMTR). In the process, was developed a code of ethics about it.
The basis of the approach: combining "economics and ecology, environment and development, openness to international trade and protection of social and cultural identities." And implementation has already begun. Thus, five initiatives have just been rewarded by the "Responsible Tourism Awards Morocco" organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
For the international category, one company was awarded by the jury, namely the UK TO "Naturally Morocco" working on Morocco for over a decade, specifically in the region of Taroudant, where he offers programs focused on economic and social development. TO this sets up projects funded in part by tourists. These projects include, among other things, women's literacy, marketing techniques and quality control for potters in the region and the production of olive oil. Following its success, this TO has committed similar actions in the region of Meknes.
In the national category and on the theme of the environment, both institutions were ranked tied for first. This is the Ibis Meknes Accor Group and Atlas Kasbah, a small cottage in the Agadir region.
The Ibis under ISO 14001 certification is the only institution to have a system of wastewater treatment. It also features solar panels that reduce water consumption and electricity and clients aware of environmental problems.
As for lodging Atlas Kasbah which is part of the host country tourism (PAT) Imouzzer Idda Outanane and whose owner is a specialist engineering sustainable tourism, it has been awarded for its argan tree in the landscape of the region and its contribution to the social economy. For its part, the Domaine Amanar, a landmark building located in the Marrakech region, which offers sports and discovery-oriented tours of villages and craft workshops, distinguished himself for the transmission of know-how and techniques to local people.
Finally, Dar Daif / Desert and Mountain, a travel agency and a guest house, was honored for his label "green key", which aims to educate guests and staff to preserve the identity local cultural area Ouazzane encouraging the use of local products and their development. The agency also offers stays of ecotourism and the initiation of tourists to ornithology.
