Marrakech, a city of a thousand and one night

History: The name comes from the Berber Marrakesh "Love" which means "country" and "Akouch" which mean "god" giving the land of god or the holy land. Gives another etymology, from the dialect tifinach, the interpretation of "land of course."
Soon, in Marrakech, led the Almoravids, austere and pious men, many mosques and madrassas (Koranic schools of theology) were built, and a commercial center for the Maghreb and black Africa.

Development: It was not until 1062, so that the place looked more like a palm gradually turns into a city where many mosques were erected. This is also the same year that Marrakech is the official position of capital of the Kingdom.

Decline: But over the centuries, the city is besieged and suffered several attacks from the Almoravids (Berber dynasty from the Sahara), and Almohads (Berber dynasty of Morocco). Marrakech is virtually destroyed. It loses its function of capital at the expense of Fez, but regains its importance and its role in the 16th century, when the Saadian, under the government of Ahmed El Arj decided to rebuild the city and restore it to its importance.

Settlement: In 1917, while Marrakech is colonized by the French troops, the Pasha "Glaoui" the city government and controls all the surrounding tribes.

Independence: For 39 years, Marrakech know the richness and became independent in 1956. Governed by Mohammed V from that date, Marrakech became a destination for world travelers, who visit them for amazing souks, all more reputable than each other.
