World Expo Shanghai 2010
This is a major event which invites us to the city of Shanghai in 2010, an event that will make a lasting economic life of the country and will put Shanghai in front of the stage.
Shanghai has been designated to host the World Expo 2010 which will begin on May 1st and will end on October 31.
The international exhibition will be certainly less spectacular than the Beijing Olympics, and will probably not be the same media coverage.
But the economic impact should be much more consistent and durable.
The ambitions were displayed openly: it will be the largest international exhibition ever since its inception in 1855, with more than 200 countries and organizations in over 15 hectares and 70 million visitors expected during the six months of its implementation (between 5 and 10% of foreign visitors are expected depending on the source). Boosted by its endemic rivalry with the capital, the city of Shanghai is mobilizing to give this event a global impact that will allow the city to compete with Beijing.
Gigantic works are under development, roads, tunnels and subway lines, hundreds of thousands of Shanghainese began to learn English ... And the town launched a campaign to make people understand that elegance, politeness and cleanliness are now the image of China.
