En route to the final
UEFA Champions League comprises of three qualifying rounds, a play-off round, a group stage and four knockout rounds.
Qualifying round
During the three rounds
qualification and in the dams, the teams meet in home and away matches, at home and outside. The team which scores the highest number of goals over the two legs is qualified. The away goals then the penalties used to determine the winner in a tie.
Group stage
The ten winners of the play-offs - five champions and five non-champions - join the 22 automatic entrants in the group stage. The 32 clubs participating in the group stage are divided into eight groups of four teams compete in all home and away matches between September and December. The top two from each group compete for the first knockout round. The third of each group qualify for the 16C-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
Knockout
8th finals of the semi-finals, the teams meet in home and away matches on the same basis as during the qualifying rounds and dams. During the 8th finals, the winners of the groups meet the second group. Both clubs have played the same group or two clubs from the same nation can not play against each other. The draw for the quarterfinals is not subject to any such constraints.
Final
The final is played on one game and will be held this year at Wembley (London), Saturday, May 28
