By train
Morocco has a relatively well-developed rail network and maintained. It covers the northern half of the country and links all the major cities of Tangier in the north to Marrakech in the south. The Mohammed V International Airport Casablanca is also served by rail. Supratours, a subsidiary of the ONCF (Office National des Chemins de Fer), dessert bus destinations not connected to the rail network.
The frequency of trains is quite good. It should be noted that they are usually quite punctual, and travel time is often shorter than those made by the bus. Moroccan trains are cheap, air conditioned, clean and more efficient. The supplement for the first class is really worth.
The stations are sometimes quite far from city centers.
The railway offers the visitor ultimately the best form of transportation in the northern half of Morocco. It will offer you the opportunity to meet Moroccans who you talk to anything else you ask for money or sell you something, which is too often the case Lorqui you are a tourist in this country affected by poverty.
By bus
The bus is a widely used means of transport in Morocco. A multitude of companies exist and offer unparalleled service, however, prices for the economy.
The two main companies are CTM and Supratours and share the market connections long distances (between major cities). Supratours has the distinction of serving the cities not connected to the rail network. These companies, which use modern vehicles are reliable and efficient. It is necessary to save his luggage at the bus station before departure (subject to Dh 5 per bag).
On shorter distances, the visitor has the choice between a large number of small companies. The service varies in quality and punctuality. The buses used are often quite old and less comfortable.
For links between major cities, it should reserve one or two days in advance during high season.
The buses leave the bus stations, much more lively than the railway stations. Like the latter, they are often located outside of city centers. There are counters of companies, which buy the ticket. There may be several bus stations in a city: buses and CTM in Casablanca have their own station, about the bus Supratours, they often leave the train station. It should inquire in advance.
[Edit] By car
The main road network is well maintained. The maintenance of the secondary network is more random. The greatest caution at night, roads are frequently used by pedestrians, bicycles, vehicles attached that are exceptionally marked by lighting. Attention also to the conduct of local show a clear preference for traffic on the middle of the road (as it must of course be right).
A highway network connects Tangier, Rabat, Fez, Casablanca, Settat, Marrakech and El Jadida.
You can take a car rental in Morocco at airports and in major cities.
Besides the big names of the rental you will find all kinds of rental accommodation, the prices are very competitive (and haggle like everything else), the vehicles are older but in good working order. Be careful if you still have to drive at night, lights illuminate the stars or some bushes instead of the road.
Taxis
Taxis are convenient and economical to move inside the cities. Prefer "small taxis," the big taxis serving transit on journeys to specific dh 3.50.
- Grand taxis
The major taxi (Mercedes Type 240 or 250, 280 or 300 for most) make connections between the city and outside or neighboring cities. The fare is negotiated before departure. The taxi will leave when completed, may contain up to 7 people (2 front, 4 rear and the driver). You can buy more seats for the place and hasten the departure.
- Petits taxis
Small taxis abound in the cities, they have a particular color that differs depending on the city (red in Casablanca, Rabat blue, mustard in Marrakech, ...
. They are limited to within the city. A race rarely cost more than 20DH. The cost is 5-Min 7DH from 8h to 20h and from 20h to 7.50 dh 8 (+ 50% of the price).
As for taxis, so drivers of small taxis are quite conservative, large Mercedes taxis drive fast and take lots of risks to arrive quickly at destination (overtaking or cornering on high rib, for example) if, Moreover, considering the fact that these vehicles over 20 years and are not in very good condition.
Always check that the meter works and require that it be reset at the start of the race. Otherwise refuse to mount. In a very touristy city like Marrakech, drivers refuse to agree to operate the meter when it comes to taking care of tourists and the fare is set to "mutual agreement" after a bargain, sometimes unpleasant, after which a tourist generally pay at least three times a Moroccan (the counter, the better, is hardly used with the premises). The arguments used are for you (= tourists) 5 or more 10 DH is not much, the taxi must make a return to empty, etc.. It is better not to dwell too much because some drivers very smiling at the start can become suddenly aggressive (verbally) during the "negotiation". If you go, sometimes the driver will remember and accept your price (which is in any case well above the price that would be determined by the meter). For an important race to agree on the price before you get because the use of the meter may lead the driver to take a path which is, surprisingly, much longer or very congested. It is customary to tip a few DH, it is better to control the money made. It is also better predict the account just because they will tell you that there is no money. Most drivers speak French, except in the most remote towns where they rarely speak french.
